Audacity
Assignment - 3 blocks
Using Audacity to Create a Read-Along Storybook
To become familiar with using Audacity to record and edit sound files, students will record a children's story. They will use a variety of effects to manipulate the sound files to create various characters. Once the story is finished, students will publish the finished product as an MP3 to publish on an online site and save on a CD so children can listen to it on the computer.
Step 1 – Choose a children’s story from those provided by the facilitator. Practice reading it aloud to get comfortable reading the story. (Link to additional stories)
Step 2 – Record the story in your regular voice. Make sure to speak loud enough to be heard clearly. (Video tutorial on recording)
Step 3 – Use the effect features in Audacity to change the “voices” of the characters in the story (adjust pitch, speed, etc.) (Video tutorial on changing pitch and speed)
Step 4 – Export final project as an MP3. Save it to your server folder. Your facilitator will let you know where this file will be posted.
